Always seeking to tell nature's story in an authentic and engaging way, my creative practice involves research based experimentation, particularly in the area of movement and anatomy. Bird flight being one of the most visually complex events to depict, has demanded much of my time in this process.
My research and field observations into bird flight and wing arrangements has informed the experimental bio-design of a high performance body surfing hand plane used to aid in lift, projection and agile turning on the wave face.
As Lecturer for Design at the University of Newcastle I have developed 3D interactive online teaching aides for developing drawing skills and visual acumen in blended modes of learning. This has required first hand anatomical studies at the University’s Anatomy Lab and creation of models using 3D digital sculpting technology.
